The Blue Rocks Past and Present:
Wilmington's Baseball Team 1940-1999 (special edition)
by Elbert Chance
The original Wilmington Blue Rocks joined the Class B Interstate League in 1940 and became its most successful franchise. The league prospered during the heyday of minor league baseball when more than 400 teams were playing in 59 leagues from coast to coast.
Forty years after the demise of the original team, a new Blue Rocks club emerged. Its performance in the Class A Carolina League has been even more spectacular than that of its predecessor, marking it as one of the most successful teams in organized baseball in the 1990s.
Author Elbert Chance recalls the humor, hits and, heartaches of the teams and individual stars who played important roles in the history of our state and nation.
A special, limited edition printing of The Blue Rocks Past and Present is also available in hardback, priced at $40.00. Each of these beautiful 225 copies will be signed by the author, Elbert Chance. In addition, each copy will be signed by Baseball Hall of Famer and former Blue Rock pitcher Robin Roberts, former Blue Rock pitchers Jack Crimian and Curt Simmons, former Blue Rock owner Ruly Carpenter, and present owner Matt Minker.
